From July 17th-21st, Nice, France is alive with the sound of jazz music. In 1948 the romantic, beach-goer destination became the host of the world’s first jazz festival. In the past 69 years, Nice Jazz Festival has grown into a largely attended and acclaimed event that celebrates the beauty and unifying power of jazz, and all other types of music. With official stages that have seen the likes of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Earth, Wind and Fire, an “Off” fringe that carries out smaller, informal performances across the city, and art installations throughout the area, Nice Jazz Festival is not only a concert, but also an atmosphere and an experience.

Jazz legend Herbie Hancock will be playing on the opening night of the festival.

This year’s festival is certain to live up to the expectations set up by its predecessors. Big stars such as Mary J. Blige and Herbie Hancock play alongside quickly rising artists like Becca Stevens Band and “festival exclusive” Sir The Baptist for a week that is guaranteed to sweep you up in the crooning tunes of a trumpet and Nice’s seaside air. Tickets and more information can be found on Nice Jazz Festival 2017’s website.
