Over the past few years, Croatia has been popping up more and more on travel guru’s radars. Beautiful beaches, rustic towns and a rich history, this is one destination that you won’t want to miss! However, if you’re looking for something a little more unique and exciting than a standard galavant through a European country, Croatia’s Dubrovnik Summer Festival is not to be missed. From July 10th to August 25th the entire city of Dubrovnik is transformed into various performance spaces for close to 2,000 artists from across the globe.

For almost 70 years the festival has been a destination for the finest artists in the world to come together and showcase their talent for both local and international viewers. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival has seen Eastern Europe through some of its most trying times, such as the wake of WWII and the fall of the Iron Curtain. Its dedication to cultivating a thoughtful and top of the line festival has kept Dubrovnik Summer Festival running through it all, and its history has become a large part of its success today.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival has developed an intimate relationship with the city over time. The venues are more than spaces for performances; they inform the acts themselves. The festival’s production of Hamlet is world famous and it is said theLovrjenac Fort in which it is performed is inhabited by the spirt of Hamlet’s father. Additionally, the world’s most famous vocalists, choirs, operas and orchestras have performed on the stages of Dubrovnik. This year’s show boasts Vladimir Malakhov’s choreography of Swan Lake and famous Croatian actor, Ozren Grabarić.

The entirety of the festival is meant to transcend the average art festival. It is meant to bring together artists and attendees from various places and backgrounds for a shared experience. It is a pure celebration of art, as well as a celebration of Dubrovnik as a cultural and historical center.
