The beloved luxury electric-car maker Tesla Motors is plugging into a new retail space near Chicago’s famed Michigan Avenue. The automobile company plans to open a 5,000-square- foot showroom on the ground floor of the 900 North Michigan Shops.
The Palo Alto, California-based electric car company, started by entrepreneur Elon Musk, is known for locating its dealerships in malls and dense urban areas surrounded by other luxury brands. The Tesla showroom will front Rush Street on the first floor of the six-floor mall, which also hosts the Four Seasons Chicago and the Residences at 900 condominiums.
Although Tesla operates sales and service centers in Highland Park, and also has showrooms at Oakbrook Center and Old Orchard Mall, this will mark the company’s first showroom in the city of Chicago. Tesla Motors will take over the Original Penguin shoe and clothing store, as well as the UGG Australia boot store on Rush Street in the Gold Coast.
The high-tech Tesla Motors’ mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy, as stated on the company’s website. Founded in 2003 by a group of engineers in Silicon Valley, the company continues to bring a luxury appeal to the electric and sustainable space.
The showroom is set to open in Summer 2017. Stay tuned on ChicagoModMagazine.com for updates!
